ASI suspended after brawl with colleague
PATHANKOT: While police is considered a custodian of law and order, two cops made a mockery of their position by firing gunshots into the air and hurling abuses at each other in full public view. Apparent blood bath could only be averted when they were overpowered by their colleagues.
Even as one ASI was suspended and a case has been registered against him for causing firing after a public complaint, senior officials maintained that no case had been registered against them.

Area resident Surinder Kumar said when he heard gunshots after coming home late at night after a business trip and was planning to retire for sleep, his first reaction was that it would be due to a brawl between drunken youth around a liquor shop near to his place.
"When I was going to bed and heard the shots, I went to my roof top and found to my surprise that it was not because of a scuffle between drunken youth, but due to policemen creating utter nuisance" , said Kumar.
While Pathankot SP Harpreet Singh said he went to the spot after a public call, both the cops involved in firing did not make any complaint against each other for registering an FIR.
Gurdaspur SSP Lok Nath Angra said "After probing the matter, ASI Makhan Singh has been suspended and booked under Section 336 and other relevant sections of the IPC. Angra said according to the probe team led by division no 2 SHO Dev Dutt Sharma, ASI Makahn Singh had fired shots in the air after a brawl with another cop Pramod Kumar. The accused ASI is at large.
